Mosquito-borne viral infections can mimic systemic autoimmune disease. Chikungunya virus can cause a chronic inflammatory arthritis that mimics rheumatoid arthritis. As climate changes and the range of mosquito vectors expands, understanding the clinical features, pathology, and treatment of Chikungunya arthritis is increasingly important. Additionally, the rapid increase in syphilis infections requires rheumatologists to be increasingly aware and vigilant for mimics of rheumatologic diseases.
