As a board-certified oral and maxillofacial pathologist and scientist, I have a particular interest in disorders affecting the salivary glands including Sjögren’s Disease (SjD), iatrogenic salivary damage by oncologic radiation and immune checkpoint (IC) therapies, and the consequence of SARS-CoV-2 infection on the salivary complex. Presently, the modalities used to treat SjD, or other salivary hypofunction disease states beyond supportive care, are poorly effective. As a Clinical Investigator, I capitalize on my extensive research and clinical training to lead an integrated and collaborative research program focused on interrogating the clinical phenotypes, genetics, and immunopathology of salivary dysfunction states including SjD, ICI sicca, and COVID-19.
