Susa Benseler is a pediatric rheumatologist. She is a Professor of Pediatrics, a clinical epidemiologist and clinician investigator in childhood inflammatory diseases and precision health. Until recently, she provided care at the Alberta Children's Hospital, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She served as the Director of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute and led the development and implementation of Canada's first Child Health strategy. She also served as the lead of the One Child Every Child Initiative aiming to advance child health across Canada and beyond.
Susa Benseler focuses integration of research into care and on care transformation for children with inflammatory diseases. She established the first Childhood Inflammatory Brain Diseases program and BrainWorks, an international Childhood Inflammatory Brain Diseases Investigator Network. Together with Prof. Rae Yeung, she co-leads the translational childhood arthritis projects UCAN.CURE and UCAN.CAN-DU, the latter in partnership with The Netherlands. These projects aim to understand the biology of childhood arthritis, capture the burden of arthritis and translate biological evidence into care to achieve best possible outcomes for children living with arthritis.
Since early 2024, she also serves in the role of Chief Academic Officer for Children's Health Ireland.
